VETERANS' RESOURCES
The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) works to serve California veterans and their families. With nearly 1.6 million veterans living in the State, CalVet strives to ensure that its veterans of every era and their families get the state and federal benefits and services they have earned and deserve as a result of selfless and honorable military service. CalVet strives to serve veterans and their families with dignity and compassion and to help them achieve their highest quality of life.
Our Mission is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.
Veterans' benefits programs are important to millions of Americans. Approximately one-third of the U.S. population, or twenty-six million veterans and forty-eight million family members are potentially eligible for federal veterans' benefits. Veterans are THE reason this department exists, our common purpose, and our efforts are directed toward meeting their needs.
The Veterans Service Office provides veterans, their dependents and/or survivors with information regarding veterans benefits, and assistance with filing benefit claims, waivers and appeals, in order to obtain and maintain all eligable benefits and entitlements..

WE HONOR OUR VETERANS
Purchasing a home in California can be a stressful process for the buyer (and seller too), bringing a mixture of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and uncertainty. We know, because we have helped thousands of veterans just like you to purchase a home. The key is to understand the basic steps in the home buying process.
We specialize in working with Active Military Personal and Veterans using VA Loans. It’s critical for military borrowers to use an Realtor who’s worked with VA loans and understands the program’s requirements.
If your PCS orders have you moving away, you may need to sell your home as soon as possible. Home hunting is often done from a distance and selling negotiations may have you communicating with your Realtor® from remote locations. Realtors who can maneuver through the agency's procedures can save borrowers from big-time hassles and headaches on things like appraisals and property criteria.
Since the VA loan program's inception in 1944, the Department of Veterans Affairs has backed more than 21 million loans for veterans, active-duty military members, and their spouses. This program has made buying a home more accessible to those who most deserve the American dream they helped build and protect.
Most members of the regular military, veterans, reservists and National Guard are eligible to apply for a VA loan. Spouses of military members who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-connected disability also can apply.
You may also apply for eligibility if you fall into one of the following categories:
-
Certain U.S. citizens who served in the armed forces of a government allied with the United States in World War II
-
Individuals with service as members in certain organizations, such as Public Health Service officers, cadets at the United States Military, Air Force, or Coast Guard Academy, midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, officers of National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, merchant seaman with World War II service, and others
-
The property purchased with the prior VA loan has been sold and the loan paid in full.
-
A qualified Veteran-transferee (buyer) agrees to assume the VA loan and substitute his or her entitlement for the same amount of entitlement originally used by the Veteran seller. The entitlement may also be restored one time only if the Veteran has repaid the prior VA loan in full, but has not disposed of the property purchased with the prior VA loan.
